An XPS thermal insulation board (extruded polystyrene foam board) is a thermal insulation material made from polystyrene (PS) resin through an extrusion process. The surface of the XPS thermal insulation board is typically smooth, with high and uniform density, providing excellent thermal insulation, moisture resistance, and compressive strength. Due to its closed-cell structure, the XPS thermal insulation board effectively prevents heat loss, while also offering good soundproofing and moisture-resistant properties. It is widely used in the construction industry, particularly for exterior wall insulation, floor, and roof thermal isolation layers.
The XPS thermal insulation board has a dense surface layer and a closed-cell internal structure. Its thermal conductivity is significantly lower than that of EPS of the same thickness, providing better thermal insulation performance compared to EPS.
For the same exterior wall of a building, the thickness required for XPS thermal insulation board is smaller than that for other types of insulation materials. Due to its closed-cell structure, the XPS thermal insulation board also exhibits excellent moisture resistance. Even in humid environments, it retains its thermal insulation properties. It is suitable for buildings with special thermal insulation requirements, such as cold storage rooms, and can also be used for buildings with exterior wall finishes made of tiles or stone.
The completely closed-cell foamed chemical structure and honeycomb-like physical structure of the XPS thermal insulation board give it lightweight yet strong characteristics. This makes it easy to cut, transport, and install, and it is less prone to damage. The mechanical fixing method is used to attach the XPS thermal insulation board to the base wall. It can be installed during winter without issues.
The XPS thermal insulation board is highly stable, remaining unaffected by aging, decomposition, or the release of harmful substances over extended periods of use. Its chemical properties are extremely stable, and it will not degrade due to water absorption or corrosion, thus maintaining its superior performance even in high-temperature environments. The XPS thermal insulation board can maintain excellent performance for 30 to 40 years, without decomposition, mold growth, or the emission of toxic substances.
